The Courage To Grow Scholarship was established to help reduce costs for college students and to assure prospective students that they will be able to achieve their educational goals. The foundation understands that costs of college tuition and expenses are constantly on the rise, and many families are already facing financial hardship without the additional cost of putting a child through college. Courage to Grow is committed to helping alleviate the concerns of finding a way to pay for higher education. Many recipients of the Courage To Grow Scholarship come from impoverished backgrounds and are the first of their family to receive a diploma from a four-year university. By helping to partially fund a scholar’s quest for higher education, the Courage To Grow Scholarship allows the student to spend more time focusing on their studies, and they can become a valuable member of the campus community rather than spend the majority of their time working and worrying about money. Courage To Grow Scholarship is aware of the sensitive information that is provided in order to obtain a scholarship, and it is especially careful to be protective of the information and will not share it with third parties. Some applicants who are chosen to receive the scholarship may later be asked to provide a testimonial and a picture that will be used for promotional reasons on the website, but these are done on a volunteer basis and are not required. In addition to the monetary benefits of the Courage to Grow Scholarship, recipients also are given a certificate of award.
In order to offset some of the many costs of attending a four-year college, the Courage To Grow Scholarship provides up to $500 to chosen scholars. One scholarship is awarded every month and applications can be done on the website and must be submitted before the final day of the month. The online application form is easy to fill out, requiring only the applicant’s first and last name, birth year, phone number, and email address. Additionally, applicants must write an essay of 250 words or less which explains why they deserve to receive the scholarship. Students must be U.S. citizens who are high school juniors or seniors and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Winners of the scholarship are notified one week after the application deadline, and the money is placed in the student’s university account after there is proof of enrollment from the college administration, and proof of a GPA of 2.5 or higher has been received. The money received from the Courage To Grow Scholarship can then be used to decrease tuition costs, pay for lab fees, pay for books, or to alleviate cost of living while in college. The $500 scholarship is non-renewable but students can re-apply if they are not selected the first time. The award is issued for any major and may be used for undergraduate or graduate study at a vocational school, a two-year university, a four-year university, or a graduate school.
