“I Matter” Scholarship
This opportunity, presented by Villa, offers fifty $5,000 awards to high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA who are planning to enroll full-time in an accredited two or four-year institution of higher education. Successful candidates will have an accomplished academic record, with evidence of committed volunteer work, demonstrable verbal communication skills and excellent references. Application packets should include transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a resume outlining achievements, extra-curricular activities, community service and involvement. Also a one to two page essay concerning the advantages and disadvantages of using social media as a platform to support personal view points about recent racial conflicts should be submitted. Lou Manzione Scholarship
Presented by The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association, the Lou Manzione Scholarship offers two $1,000 awards to Delaware seniors intending to pursue secondary education and who are registered with USA Hockey. Applicants should submit a 500 word essay on the topic of “The Value of High School Hockey to My Personal Development”, a transcript reflecting current grades with GPA, class rank, and SAT scores. Diamond State Scholarship
The Diamond State Scholarship offers fifty renewable awards of $1,250 to top ranking high school seniors with a minimum combined SAT score of 1800, who are residents of Delaware and are planning to enroll full-time in a regionally accredited institution of higher education. There are no specific appointed academic areas of study associated with eligibility. Candidates should submit an online application with transcripts, a resume of activities, an essay between 1,000 – 1,200 words. The scholarship deadline is March 5, 2017. The Luther and Mary Ida Vandross Scholarship
This scholarship offers five $10,000 awards for sophomore, junior, senior and fifth year undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time at a four-year Historically Black College or University. Candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Delaware. A completed application submission contains an essay, academic transcripts, a resume of leadership experience, financial documentation including a copy of the FAFSA report and the University’s cost of attendance. The application package cannot be submitted online. It may be either mailed to the address listed on the webpage or it may be hand delivered to the office. The Ron & Cora Lee Children of Law Enforcement Officers Scholarship
This provides one $1,000 award available to high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and who are residents of Delaware. Students must be a son or daughter of a current or retired parent individual working in law enforcement and who has arrest powers. Candidates must submit an application packet with the completed application from, current transcript reflecting the most recent grade report, three customized letters of recommendation and a 500 word essay detailing the importance of maintaining family bonds.
