Foot Locker Retailer Inc., a multinational, American company is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, New York, with locations in 20 different countries. Specializing in athletic apparel and footwear, Foot Locker is a Fortune 500 corporation with earnings over 7 billion dollars a year. Its parent company, F.W. Woolworth, the five-and-dime store, founded in 1878 in New York by Frank Winfield Woolworth, was the first of its kind in the world. Woolworth and his brother formulated the concept of merchandising, direct purchasing, sales, and customer service we use today. After years of success, Woolworth, today known as Venator Group, Inc., acquired Kinney Shoe which branched out into many specialty shoe stores, including Foot Locker in 1974. Today, Foot Locker brand is the top line for the parent company.

In 2007, after years of tremendous growth, Foot Locker launched a charitable donations campaign designated for schools. Joining with SchoolPAX, it was made it possible for community members to shop at their retail locations with a school coded shopper card and donate money back to their schools. Later, in 2011, Foot Locker began an ongoing scholarship program called which recognizes outstanding scholar-athletes.

The Foot Locker Company distributes $400,000 dollars in scholarships annually to 20 exceptional college bound high school seniors who display good sportsmanship and exemplary moral character in that they have demonstrated consistency in helping others, who are leaders athletically and socially, who are outstanding scholars and who are well rounded in all aspects of life. In addition to the $20,000 award, starting in 2016 one top scholar showing academic excellence, leadership and passion for sports will be chosen to receive the Ken C. Hicks Scholarship worth $5,000 for a total of $25,000. Awards will be distributed in $5,000 yearly increments for $20,000 recipients and a yearly amount of $6,250 for the one Ken C. Hicks Scholarship.   In order to qualify, applicants must be a high school senior with intention to enroll in a 4 year college. Applicants must also participate in school sports inclusive of teams or Intramural sports. Scholar-athletes must hold a 3.0 GPA every semester starting in 9th grade until and including the first semester of senior year. You’re requested to submit two 500 word essay and provide a non-family member generated letter of recommendation.  Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and not a family member of a Foot Locker employee.
