Bernie Varnadore Scholarship
The Bernie Varnadore Scholarship program offers eleven $1,250 awards to high achieving high school seniors who participated in the Dixie Boys Baseball program at some point in their young lives and who are planning to enroll full-time at an accredited two or four-year college or university. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Louisiana. Candidates should submit the completed application form along with the Financial Statement form, two letters of recommendation, transcripts and SAT or ACT scores. Also, a statement of participation in the league by a local official is required as well as a 150 word personal essay on a topic of your choosing. The scholarship deadline is April 1, 2017. Youth Scholarship Program
Presented by the Electronic Security Association, the Youth Scholarship Program offers two $8,500 scholarships for high school seniors who are planning to enroll in an accredited college or university. To be eligible students must be able to prove acceptance or matriculation at the school of planned or current attendance and that their parent is an actively employed member of the police, sheriff or fire department within the same state where the student’s school is located. Applicants should submit a completed application form, an essay, transcripts reflecting a current GPA, SAT or ACT scores, and a resume of the applicants achievements, honors, activities, employment history, The scholarship deadline is March 25, 2016. Karen E. Domingue-Maillet and Solvay/Eco Services Scholarship
This program offers one $10,000 award to a student from Baker, Glen Oaks High Schools or Scotlandville Magnet High School. Applicants must be in the top 50% of their graduation class and be able to demonstrate financial need. Candidates should submit a completed online application form with current transcripts reflecting class ranking, a letter of recommendation, a resume of academic achievements that should include volunteer/community service as well as employment. The SAR and a personal essay are also required for consideration. The scholarship deadline is March 1, 2017.
Louisiana TOPS Performance Award
This award covers the cost of tuition and some fees for any Louisiana student who enrolls in a college or university within the Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. The actual award amount is equal to the average cost of colleges and universities within the Association. Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 2.5, 19.0 Core Units and a minimum ACT score of 20. The award is renewable yearly with proof that the recipient has continued to meet the minimum requirements. The scholarship deadline is July 1, 2017. You can find more information online.
Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship
The Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship is a $12,000 award intended for both undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing a career in forestry, wildlife or marine science at a Louisiana college or university. Eligible candidates are U.S. citizens or non-citizens in possession of appropriate documentation and are residents of Louisiana. Undergraduate applicants must have completed 60 credit hours and have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.5. Graduate students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship deadline is July 1, 2017.
