Southeast Chapter Professional Development Scholarship

Presented by American Society of Travel Agents, the SE Chapter Professional Development Scholarship offers $1,500 awards to students enrolling an ASTA or The Travel Institute Educational Program. Since the award is a reimbursement, it can also be used to defray the cost of registration fees associated with ASTA International Expo which has already been attended but not more than one year ago. Applicants must be permanent U.S. residents and have had experience within the travel industry. The scholarship deadline is updated annually on the web page. You can find more information online.

Bernie Varnadore Scholarship Program

This scholarship offers eleven  $1250 awards to high achieving high school seniors who were also participants in the Dixie Boys Baseball League. Applicants submit a completed application form as well as the Financial Statement form provided as part of the application. Three letters of recommendation are also required. One of the letter must come from a school official. In addition, a program participation verification from the local league official that includes the years of participation, any commentary of attitude and sportsmanship as any leadership qualities developed while on the team. Transcripts, SAT or ACT scores and a 150 word personal essay referencing goals and career plans as well future volunteer work. The scholarship deadline is April 1, 2017.

Bird Dog Foundation Essay Contest

The Bird Dog Foundation offers two $1,500 awards to Mississippi high school seniors who are also U.S. citizens and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university. Applicants will submit a 900 – 1000 word essay. The topic choices are provided on the application. The essayists are required to have a minimum of five sources included three books or periodicals and should provide a bibliography. The scholarship deadline is April 15, 2017. Church’s Chicken Community Scholarship Program

This scholarship offers one $1,000 award to high school seniors who are planning to enroll either part for full-time in an accredited college, university or vocational program in fall after graduating from high school. In order to be eligible, students must be a resident of Mississippi and have a minimum GPA of 2.7 Candidates should submit a completed online application with transcripts. The Scholarship deadline is February 15, 2017. You can find more information online.

Tupelo Elvis Fan Club Scholarship

The Tupelo Elvis Fan Club Scholarship offers three awards between $5,000 $2,000 to musically talented high school seniors who are intending to enroll in an accredited college or university of their choice. Music does not have to be the major. Applicants should create an MP4 video to submit for consideration. Those selected will agree to perform at the annual finale or forfeit the award money. The cost of the travel to and from the event is borne by the applicant. The scholarship deadline is February 14, 2017. You can find more information online.
