Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS) Medical Student Scholarship

This scholarship offers $4,000 award to Pennsylvania residents of Allegheny County who are enrolled full-time in year three or four at an accredited Pennsylvania school of medicine. Candidates should submit a completed application form with two letters of reference conveying the student’s high levels of integrity, and interpersonal skills which will be helpful as a future physician. As well, a letter from the candidate’s medical school verifying full-time enrollment is required. Candidates must craft a one-page essay discussing their plans for community involvement beyond clinical care and their vision for leadership as a physician in the community. The scholarship deadline is September 30, 2017.

Beulah Frey Environmental Scholarship

The Beulah Frey Scholarship is an environmental conservation award, presented by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, offers $1,000 awards to students graduating from high schools in the areas of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Beaver, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland Counties. Candidates must submit a completed application form, two essays, official transcripts, SAT and ACT scores and a letter of recommendation from a supervisor who was directly involved in environmental aspects of the candidate’s activities. The scholarship deadline is March 31, 2017.

Charles E. Peterson Prize Fellowship

Presented by The Athenaeum of Philadelphia, the Charles E. Peterson Prize offers grants up to $15,000 to students pursuing intellectual followings associated with the study, recording, and preservation of architectural interests from the pre-1860 American period of history, or for teaching conservation skills for architectural schools. Candidates must possess a doctorate and have a highly distinguished resume of accomplishment in the field. The application is achieved through submission of a brief statement of the project in the form of a letter which is to include budgetary information, anticipated timeline, resume and two letters of reference. The scholarship deadline is March 1, 2017.

F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship

This opportunity offers one $12,000 award to Pennsylvania students, from the Northeastern areas of the state. Applicants are not required to be formally schooled or otherwise trained for their particular art genre/medium. The Grant Selection Committee is looking for candidates to demonstrate how the scholarship would aid them in their professional development as an artist. Artists must create an online account to access and submit the application. The scholarship deadline is December 15, 2017.

Hope Through Learning Award

This learning award offers $2,500 awards to students who have experienced and persevered through homelessness and who are looking to pursue their educational dreams. Applicants must be 24-year-old and younger, living in Allegheny County and either are currently or have in the past experienced, homelessness, as defined on the application form. Students should submit a completed application form, the most recent high school transcript, a resume of activities, a two-page personal essay describing the experience of homelessness how it has affected any educational goals, how the challenges are being or were overcome, and what personal contribution could be made to bring more attention to homelessness. Also, two letters of recommendation, and a copy of the post-secondary school’s letter of acceptance. The scholarship deadline is May 31, 2017.
